The company, based in New York, has been touring extensively for nearly twenty years, wowing audiences everywhere with their impeccable performances. With a cast of 40 male and female performers, Shen Yun Performing Arts prides itself in being “a presentation of traditional Chinese culture as it once was: a study in grace, wisdom, and virtues distilled from five millennia of Chinese civilization.”
It’s a breathtaking spectacle of everything one could possibly want in a theatrical experience: heartfelt expression, ethnic flavour, hair-raising movement and postures, and acrobatics and tumbling; a hair-raising harmony of instruments, from strings, brass, woodwinds and percussion to the suona, pipa, dizi, erhu, and guzheng; intricate costumes imitating legends, a wide range of interesting props, and sometimes even depictions of folklore such as Outlaws of the Marsh; and incredible digital projections depicting landscapes.
